The title drew you in right? So where does it come from, where did I hear such a detestable statement? I was sitting in a cab going into town and my friend was sitting up front discussing the number of Polish people that had moved here to make a new life. I had heard this discussion many times and so I switched off, I was tired of people coming out with same old racist bull and the “they are taking our jobs” rubbish.
But then I heard that statement, made by the taxi driver and I was stunned that anyone could come out with this sort of thing. I have written articles on the BNP, a racist British “political” party and I have actually stood up against racists using violence, which some might say was playing straight into their own hands. But when I heard this statement I didn’t say anything because what stunned me most was the fact that the person who made this statement assumed that the listener was in full agreement with them.
I’m getting really tired of people trying to force these sorts of opinions onto me and then taking offence when I argue back. The racists that assume because I am the same colour as them that I hold the same views. Religious nuts that try and stop me in the street because Jesus wants to save my soul. I have nothing against religious people, and I’m glad your views give you comfort but to me, it’s the same as believing in leprechauns, but you do seem to take offence when I say that to you. That’s just my view and I also believe that world leaders should also not be religious.
Why? Well when Britain’s then Prime Minister Tony Blair the war criminal decided to send the troops to Iraq he admitted that he took advice from God. His actual quote was, “In the end, there is a judgement that, I think if you have faith about these things, you realise that judgement is made by other people... and if you believe in God, it's made by God as well.” That’s a fantastic get out clause, Blair wasn’t to blame it was God. Take responsibility Blair, that excuse won’t give you a pass with religious people. In some ways I hope God does exist because then Blair will have a lot of explaining to do.
The point is no one ever thinks they are in the wrong. Hitler didn’t think he was the bad guy when he murdered millions of Jews. Bush and Blair probably know they are wrong but the profit margin has calmed their conscience and there are enough people telling them they are right to calm any doubts; actually scrap that, they probably do think they are right. I’m all for people airing their views even if I don’t agree with them, many people don’t agree with me.
But don’t take offence when I argue back because I don’t agree with your views. If you are going to keep sticking this stuff in my face when I didn’t ask you to then from now on you will be getting some back. I've got my second wind and i'm no longer tired. Be warned!!
